Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships Program
Offer recognition and three years of support for advanced study to approximately 900 outstanding graduate students in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, and behavioral and social sciences, including the history of science and the philosophy of science, and to research-based PhD degrees in science education.

Private Sources for Fellowships and Scholarships
- American Association of University Women (AAUW)
Funds pioneering research on girls and education, community action projects, and fellowships and grants for outstanding women around the globe.
- Beckman Scholars Program
Beckman Scholars Program is an invited program for accredited universities and four-year colleges in the United States. It provides scholarships that contribute significantly in advancing the education, research training and personal development of select students in chemistry, biochemistry, and the biological and medical sciences.
- Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF)
The Foundation awards several grants each year for research or education in topics
pertaining with any aspect of solid waste management. Four scholarships are also
available that recognize excellence in Ph.D. or post-doctoral environmental research
and education.
- Fulbright Scholar Program
The U.S. Student Program awards approximately 1,000 grants annually and currently operates in over 140 countries worldwide.
- Garden Club of America - Scholarships and Fellowships
Offers 14 scholarships in various environmental areas.
- Grants and Fellowships of the American Museum of Natural History
The American Museum of Natural History offers competitive grants and fellowships in areas broadly related to its scientific and educational objectives. These areas include the fields of vertebrate zoology, invertebrate zoology, paleozoology, anthropology, astrophysics and earth and planetary sciences. - Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship
As part of the National Sea Grant College Progam, fellowship was established in 1979 to provide a unique educational experience to students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources.
- Morris K. Udall Foundation
- Scholarships and Disertation Fellowships
Each year, the Foundation awards 80 undergraduate scholarships of up to $5,000 to juniors and seniors in fields related to the environment, and to Native American and Alaska Natives in fields related to health care or tribal policy. In addition, the foundation awards two Ph.D. dissertation fellowships of $24,000 to students whose work is in the areas of environmental public policy or environmental conflict resolution. Recipients must be in the final, writing year of their Ph.D. work and must submit a copy of their dissertation to the Udall Foundation at the end of the award year.

The Department of Defense is committed to increasing the number and quality of our Nation's scientists and engineers. Toward that end, the DoD annually supports approximately 8,000 graduate students in fields important to national defense needs.
- Sigma Xi: Grants-in-aid of Research Program
Awards grants of $1,000 or less to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering.

- Teresa Heinz Scholars for Environmental Research
Provides doctoral dissertation and master's thesis or project enhancement support for research on emerging environmental issues. Research must have public policy relevance that increases society's understanding of environmental problems and their solutions.

Labs Graduate Research Fellowship Program
Purpose to increase the number of minorities and women in science,
math, engineering and technology.
- Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships for Minorities
The Ford Foundation offers predoctoral fellowships to increase the presence of underrepresented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campuses, and to address the persisting effects of past discrimination.
- Gates Millennium Scholars
The Gates Millennium Scholars program, established in 1999, was initially funded by
a 1 billion dollar grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for
outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest
potential.

- NASA Harriet G. Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowship Program
Program for advancing increased numbers of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities participating in the math, science, engineering, and technology (MSET) disciplines.
- National Action
Council for Minorities in Engineering
NACME is widely known as the nation's largest private source of scholarships for African
American, American Indian and Latino women and men in engineering. Over 15 percent of
all minority engineering graduates since 1974 have received scholarship support from
NACME and are now leaders in government, industry and academia.
- National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Scinece,
Inc. (GEM)
The National GEM Consortium's primary focus is to administer and award full fellowships
with paid internships to highly qualified under-represented students who wish to pursue
graduate studies in engineering or science.

Grants, awards, and fellowships to advance the participation and recognition of women in science and foster research.
